On Tuesday morning Year 5 took part in a fit4kids workshop where we started by looking at the different food groups including fruit and vegetables, complex carbohydrates, dairy, fats and protein. We looked at what we should eat to keep us healthy but also fuller for longer. We investigated nutritional labels in particular how many calories each product has as we need to give our body energy especially if we are active. We were looking for products with low sugars and salts, labelled green on our label and avoiding labels with red values. We discovered for our age we should only have 24g of sugar a day (about 6 sugar cubes). We were shocked to find out that just one glass of cola would exceed our daily limit. After we had discussed fuelling our bodies we were shown some easy exercises we could do at home to keep us active. We tried bicycle kicks, lunges, squats, squat thrusts and windmills for 1 minute each. We were absolutely exhausted!
