On Monday, as part of the Gateshead Children’s book festival, we were lucky enough to have a published author called Chris Callaghan come into school and share with us his first novel, The great Chocoplot. When Chris read the first line of his novel “In six days there will be no more chocolate in the world”, sixty chocolate panic faces surrounded him! We couldn’t even imagine a world without chocolate. His and his young daughters love of chocolate was the inspiration behind the book. Chris carried on reading introducing us to the main characters and we were enthralled with his character voices. It really got us thinking about the way we read aloud! Could we be that entertaining? After listening to the first chapter Chris then paused and talked us through his writing process, starting with his research on chocolate. He talked about how the research process is crucial when planning a story, gathering lots of facts and information to help bring your stories to life. Chris shared with us some of the most interesting things he found out about chocolate such as it can help memory loss, help improve your vision and even make you feel happier. We then listened to some more of the story, which left us wanting more, and not just more chocolate! We then asked Chris some questions about story writing, inspiration and being an author.
You have the right to find out things and share what you think with others, by talking, drawing, writing or in any other way unless it harms or offends other people.
