Today we enjoyed a visit to the Shipley Art Gallery. Firstly we spent some time looking at a range of ceramic objects. We talked about how they were made and what they are used for. We noticed that lots of them could be used in a practical way such as a plate, a tea pot or money box. Others were more decorative but all of them had been decorated to look appealing.

Next we took our clipboards up in to the gallery and looked for a container that we can use, an unusual container, a decorative container and a container that we really liked! This helped to give us ideas for our own clay containers. In a different space, we looked for ideas of ways to decorate our containers. Back in the workshop, it was time to create a container by putting our thumbs deep in to the clay and turning it round several times. Finally we used tools to decorate our bowls.
