During our topic, ‘Books’, we have looked at lots of special books including the Holy Bible. Today we visited Deacon Tom in church to talk about the books that are used in church. The missal is a huge book with around 1565 pages: it contains all of the prayers said in Mass and is by the priest or Deacon. The Lectionary includes all of the readings for throughout the year. Did you know that there are 3 different lectionaries? 1 is for Sunday readings, another for Monday to Saturday readings and another for other special times such as Baptism, Marriages and Funerals. Deacon Tom showed us the lectern where priests, deacons and members of the parish read from. We now know that ‘lectern’ means ‘to read.’
