Today we had the first of 4 visits to a nearby allotment run by the community group ‘Big Local’. We met Suzanne there who taught us how to keep safe at the site. It was a gorgeous day to be learning outside and the children really got stuck in! They worked in groups to do a variety of jobs such as erecting canes to support growing bean plants, removing weeds from the paths as well as lots of planting (sunflowers, strawberries and beans). Next, Suzanne took us on a walk around the allotments to take a peek at some of the other plots. Some people grow vegetables, some grow flowers, some people grow both and that is called companion planting. Finally, Suzanne helped us to plant our own sunflower seeds which we are going to take home to look after. We are really looking forward to going back next time and seeing how the things we planted have grown.
