Year 5 & 6 visited Gateshead Library this week to celebrate the Northern Children’s Book Festival. It is the festivals 40th birthday this year and they had a very special guest – Steve Skidmore! Steve is a hugely successful author, having written 266 books – wow!

The session was absolutely brilliant and the children were gripped from beginning to end. Steve had a wonderful presence and is a great showman and storyteller. He talked about his inspiration for writing, read us extracts from his books and even got some of the children (and teachers) involved with acting them out – it was such great fun!
He promoted the importance of reading saying the following:
‘When you read a book, you can go anywhere. When you read a book, your brain grows. People who read, have happier lives.

The children were thrilled to have the opportunity to buy his new book, Killer Custard and have it signed by the author him self
