We are proud to introduce to you this group of volunteers. The Young Interpreter Scheme provides peer support to pupils who are learning English as an additional Language. Our children are keen to use their skills and knowledge to support new learners of English in Corpus Christi so that they feel safe, settled and valued from the start. The scheme is also very powerful in developing empathy amongst English speakers towards some of the challenges and difficulties that pupils new to English or new to this country may be facing.
Bilingual pupils will use their language skills in a variety of ways to help new arrivals access English and feel part of our school. Alongside English- only speakers they will employ a different strategies to clarify, explain and “interpret” a whole range of school activities, system and procedures to new entrants. The scheme supports and develops volunteers confidence and leadership skills as they enable other pupils take a full part in all school activities.
