Recently, we had another assembly about an Inspirational Person. This time, it was Mrs Bonello who told us all about the musician, Nina Simone. Mrs Bonello chose Nina Simone, not only because of her talent, but also because of her strength and determination to do what she loved. Nina Simone, whose actual name was Eunice Waymon, grew up in a time when everybody did not have the same rights; people were often treated differently because of their colour. Nina Simone fought against this and wrote many songs about the discrimination she had experienced. After learning about her life and music, our children listened to some of her songs. They tried to express how the music made them feel whilst they were listening to it.
