The outdoor environment is a rich, dynamic, natural space for learning and development and we value it as an essential resource. Being outdoors has a positive impact on children’s sense of well being, gives them first hand experiences of weather, seasonal change and the natural world. Reception class travelled to the adventure playground at Washington Wetlands Centre so we could have the freedom to explore, use our senses and be physically active.
We had a great time developing our physical coordination, experimenting with body movements and challenging ourselves in adventurous situations. Outdoors we had the freedom to explore and develop our physical boundaries. This developing awareness of risk taking had a huge impact on our self esteem and confidence. We are learning to develop healthy and active lifestyles.
