During Literacy this half term, Year 6 have been reading Skellig by David Almond. We have used the book for lots of activities looking at reading, writing and also drama techniques. We have written character and setting descriptions, looked at the ways that the author creates images in the readers’ minds and how Almond uses foreshadowing – creating suspense to hook the reader into the story. This week, we have looked at hot-seating and taken on the role of a character and asked the character questions. The children enjoyed taking part in this group activity – creating questions for the characters and imagining how they would respond. This will help them to develop empathy with their own characters in their writing next week.
