On Friday Mrs Geary, who came to teach us some sketching skills, visited Year 5. We started by exploring the different types of pencils and what effect they would have on a sketch. We learnt about H pencils and B pencils and that using different types and numbers would make our sketches darker or lighter. We then began to create a swatch sheet, which we will build up over the next few weeks. We started with hatching and cross-hatching and looked at how they could be used to build tone and shade sketches. We experimented using different numbered H and B pencils. Mrs Geary then tasked us to add some tone and shade to everyday items such as water bottles and apple using cross-hatching and hatching skills only
