This week we moved on from hatching and cross-hatching and looked at another technique called stippling, which uses small dots to shade. First we looked at some examples of stippling and explored how it can be used to create tone, shade and texture. We also saw examples of a similar technique called pointillism, which relies on coloured dots to create images. Once we had seen some examples we began to practice stippling on our swatch sheet. We again used a variety of different H and B pencils to experiment with lightness and darkness. Once we had filled in our swatch sheet we practiced stippling on our own designs, which were based around number- as it was number day.
